Driving Inclusion Zurich Syariah at Music Festival as New Strategy to Increase Younger Generation Awareness Closer to Risk and Protection
Jakarta, 1 June 2025 — PT Zurich General Takaful Indonesia (Zurich Syariah) continues to strive to reach the younger generation, one of which is through a lifestyle-based approach that is relevant and close to their daily lives, through the two-decade Jakarta International BNI Java Jazz Festival in 2025. Zurich Syariah's participation in the largest jazz music festival in Indonesia is one of the implementations of a new strategy to build closeness while providing direct experience of a sense of security and comfort from the presence of insurance protection in everyday life.
Based on Zurich Syariah's internal data, the interest of the younger generation in insurance protection shows a positive trend, especially in travel insurance. Until April 2025, there was an increase in the number of sharia travel insurance policies from Zurich Syariah of 54% year-on-year from customer age range of 25-40 years and an increase in premium income of 45%. Travel insurance to various countries in the Asia-Pacific region is the most popular travel insurance option, with benefits including medical and other emergency costs, flight delay and diversion costs, baggage and personal belongings guarantees, as well as the cost of repatriating bodies and other related matters. In total, Zurich Syariah has succeeded in providing protection to around 180,000 of its sharia travel insurance customers.
President Director PT Zurich General Takaful Indonesia, Hilman Simanjuntak, said, “The younger generation is playing an increasingly important role in the economy and is becoming a dominant population. Therefore, it is important for us to introduce insurance protection through a relevant, interesting, and close approach to their lifestyle. By this way, we expect that risk education does not stop at literacy but also encourages real inclusion and provides a sense of security in every phase of their lives.”
Existing at the Jakarta International BNI Java Jazz Festival 2025, Zurich Syariah provides personal accident protection to more than 3000 crews, artists, and musicians, as well as to up to 100,000 festival visitors. This protection includes compensation for medical expenses, permanent disability, and death due to accidents, with a total coverage of up to IDR 600 million, the amount of which is adjusted to the beneficiary.
Even though, based on the National Survey of Financial Literacy and Inclusion (SNLIK) by OJK and BPS, the national financial literacy rate shows a significant increase, from 49.68% in 2022 to 65.55% in 2024, the adoption of insurance products is still a challenge, especially in the younger age group. Therefore, Zurich Syariah sees involvement in the Jakarta International BNI Java Jazz Festival 2025 as an effective strategic step to reach a wider audience while encouraging an increase in the insurance inclusion index in Indonesia.
"The various efforts we have made are part of Zurich Syariah's commitment to encourage insurance literacy and inclusion in Indonesia. We will continue to strive to understand the needs and characteristics of various ages' customers to provide relevant services and protect them optimally," Hilman concluded.
